Content of the project:

We are developing, within the partnership HORGANIC, an innovative training model within the field of gardening and horticulture. The intention is to develop a simulation methodology specially adapted for the target group of adults with mental health problems. This project is being carried out for the purpose of improving learning conditions for the target group, since there are still insufficient opportunities available for lifelong learning when considering this particular target group.

In order to develop a practical gardening and horticulture course, four different kinds of teaching materials will be needed:

1. A manual for the teachers to include complete information on each of the gardening and horticulture didactic lessons, as well as information on the simulation methodology exercises supporting any new knowledge acquired.

2. A textbook for the learners to include all the gardening and horticulture sessions in order to strengthen the acquired knowledge, and be able to follow the lessons.

3. A teaching DVD to include examples of the training that will help other organizations and centers to be a part of this experience. The purpose of the HORGANIC project is to sow seeds that will sprout and grow in many different places, thus creating a Green European Community.

4. A website as one of the supporting tools for trainers, learners and organizations involved in the adult education process.

How can we be sure that the teaching materials will be effective?

By testing them within the framework of a one-year-piloted training programme that will be carried out simultaneously in Spain, Germany, and Slovenia. 30 adults with mental health problems will test the training and develop their cognitive, social, and practical skills, which will have a very positive impact on their integration within the society.
