Project Title:  Digital mentoring for young people with disabilities in rural areas: Improving skills for an independent living; Improving my future (Digit2Me)

Programme/financer: Erasmus +, KA220-YOU – Cooperation partnerships in youth, AGENCIA NACIONAL ESPAÑOLA DE LA JUVENTUD (INJUVE) (Spanish National Agency for Youth)

Description:

The main purpose of Digit2Me is to create an innovative and comprehensive training program and also other pedagogical tools for digital mentoring for vulnerable young people living in rural areas. With this project we aim to promote their social inclusion and the transition to their independent living as active members of the rural communities where they live, having in mind, especially, the most vulnerable group among them; young people with disabilities (YPD).

Digital mentoring as an opportunity with added value, can help them to address some of the challenges they face, such as limited access to education & training, and employment opportunities.

Digital mentoring involves using digital technologies such as video conferencing, messaging apps, and social media platforms to provide mentoring and coaching support remotely. This can help overcome some of the barriers that YPD in rural areas face, such as limited access to transportation and services.

To implement digital mentoring in rural areas, it is necessary to invest in trainings for mentors and mentees on the effective use of digital platforms for mentoring. For YPD in rural areas, it is important to ensure that they have access to the necessary digital technologies and support, such as assistive technologies, and training on how to use digital platforms for mentoring. It is also important to ensure that the mentoring support is tailored to the specific needs of the young person, and that the mentor is appropriately trained and qualified to provide the necessary support.

Digit2Me will set down the role of the digital mentor in rural areas using innovative mentoring methods for young professionals who will after mentor to vulnerable young people from rural areas and specifically to those YPD in their independent living processes. Thus, It contributes to improve local services and employment opportunities in rural areas, because the digital mentor figure can create a new yield of employment and maybe it can be a powerful rural development agent that make possible the improving of the lives of those young people more vulnerable that are facing fewer opportunities.
